This book has great recipes for not only soap, but fragrances, shampoos, etc. I enjoyed reading the history they provided, but it does tend to place an emphasis on cold process soap.

I loved this book. A friend of mine knew I started making soaps and he brought this one in from his book collection and I have been glued to it ever since. It offers a lot of interesting recipes and information about soapmaking. It's great for beginings and as a reference to go back and forth with once you become comfortable in your craft. There are even packaging ideas and technical info, like trouble shooting, a safety guide, an SAP chart, etc. I rate it at 4 only because I would like to see more photos of the soaps. This book has plenty of photos, but I would rather see a photo of the finished product instead of a photo of the herb added to the recipe. With more photos, I would probably give it a 5.

This is a great little book packed with recipes, some history and a charming format. The reference information is very useful and the author offers useful information on many of the basics of several methods of soapmaking. The only improvement that might help the reader would be to offer what is meant by a typical "batch" of soap (i.e. quantity) when specifying how much of a scent or additive should be added per "batch" of soap. Otherwise a very enjoyable book.

I am very pleased with this book. I have used several of the recipes to make soap and am planning on making some other waters and scents from it. The only draw back is the unclear measurements of M&P soaps to ingredients.
