I was very disappointed with this book. The recipes had pretty much the same oil base (a blend of the same 2 oils and a shortening) with a different herb or essential/fragrance oil combo and a couple also have colorants and herbs. Once any beginner makes their first batch or reads their first recipe, anyone could come up with the same ideas on their own for the other recipes that follow. I would prefer different oil mixes so the reader can have an idea of what different oils would produce in different combinations. Also, part of the reason I got the book was for packaging and decorating section. To my surprise, the "cutting, curing, forming, packaging, and decorating" section is LITERALLY less than 2 pages long and this includes a big photo on each of those two pages. If you copied the whole section (photos included) on a regular 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper, it could fit on one sheet. If you are looking for a book to inspire creativity or give you more than a couple basic ideas for trying new things, this is probably not the book for you.

This book was a gift from someone who knows I make soap. It has good information, great pictures, and recipes that work well. I would recommend this as a second book in soapmaking, not as detailed a reference as others I have. Still a very good book on soaps, though!
