Tahitian Black Sand or volcanic (basalt) sand covers most of the beaches of the Polynesian Islands, which took birth from volcanic activity. This beautiful black sand forms when hot volcanic lava comes in contact with cold ocean water and fractures into tiny shards. The constant pounding of the ocean waters further mills it into fine grains of sand (<500 microns). Tahitian Black Sand can be used to create natural mineral scrubs for the hands and feet, and can also be added to soaps, shower gels and liquid hand soaps. Rate of usage may vary depending on application but 2% is generally recommended.
