Illipe Butter is obtained from the nuts of the Shorea stenoptera, a tropical tree. Illipe Butter is very similar in nature to cocoa butter, but it has a higher melting point. Its high melting point makes it a good ingredient to include for making hard bars of soap. It has a mild characteristic odor. Illipe Butter moisturizes the skin and restores elasticity. It is used in skin and sun care products, massage creams, and soap. It lends rigidity to balms, stick formulations and soaps.
Please Note: During transit, vegetable butters may possibly melt or partially melt. Some butters may crystallize if they resolidify too slowly. This does not impact the quality or usability of the butter. Most of our customers are artisans and personal care manufacturers that melt vegetable butters for incorporation into personal care products. A grainy texture only affects those customers that have the desire to use butters "as is." Click here to learn how to eliminate crystallization
About Our Vegetable Butter Packaging: Our butters are packaged in airtight plastic containers, not retail packaging. We are a wholesale supplier, and most of our customers use our butters in their product formulations. Butters can sometimes melt during transit, and these containers help ensure that the butters don't leak. For a selection of glass and plastic easy-open jars that are wonderful to use in conjunction with our butters, look to our Packaging section.

Something I: Purchased for Myself
I purchased this product because it was on sale and I was interested in having a butter with a higher melting point to mix with my coconut oil. When I opened it I found a hard, solid butter that was a dark yellow and had a pungent smell. I''''m sure it''''s rancid, although the site says it should have a 2 year shelf life, and I''''m honestly afraid to use it.
FNWL Response: Danielle, we're sorry that our description had still referred to our Illipe Butter as being white in color when you placed your order. Our new lot is more yellow. Natural products are not standardized and colors can vary. Our Customer Care department, however, will be issuing you a refund. We assure you that our Illipe Butter is not rancid. As our description states, Illipe Butter has a mild, characteristic aroma.
