Anise seed essential oil, Pimpinella anisum, has an aroma similar to licorice. It is useful in the treatment of digestive and respiratory ailments. In a massage blend, anise seed oil can help alleviate muscular aches and pains, indigestion and flatulence. Anise seed essential oil is also useful in thinning and expulsion of bronchial mucus. When used in soap, anise is said to mask human odors, making it great in a fisherman's or hunter's soap.

Use sparingly on the skin because it can cause irritation.
