Nut and Seed Meals

Our pure, natural nut and seed meals make great exfoliants in body and face scrubs. Because they are rich in their respective oils, they also lend nutritive value to skin formulations. Mix the nut meals with liquid body gel, fragrance, vegetable oils and oatmeal or salt for a moisturizing body polisher. You can also try mixing them with cream, milk, honey, clay, mud, plain yogurt, fruit purees or our mild liquid castille soap for a natural facial or body scrub. These meals also make a nice additive in soaps. Use an anti-oxidant like T-50 vitamin E oil to keep the nut meal stable.

For centuries, people have bathed in the mineral-rich seas of the world to help promote good health and beautiful skin. Ancient records show that people traveled many miles to bathe in salt waters such as the Dead Sea, the Black Sea, the Red Sea, the Blue Lagoon and the famous mineral springs around the world. The mineral-rich, salty waters have been know to help alleviate even the most severe cases of dry skin disorders. Salt water bathing stimulates circulation, hydrates the skin, increases moisture retention, promotes cellular regeneration, detoxifies the skin, and helps heal dry, scaling, irritated skin. It also reduces inflammation of the muscles and joints, relaxes muscles and relieves pain and soreness. Important minerals such as magnesium, potassium, bromide, and calcium are readily absorbed into the skin when we bath in a lukewarm sea salt bath. 2 - 4 cups of sea salt per bath are recommended for detoxifying and for alleviating itchy, dry skin. When essential oils are added to a salt bath, they are also readily absorbed increasing their therapeutic effectiveness. Use salts to make bath soaks, bath bombs, bath fizzies, scrubs and foot soaks. Sea salt water can also be used in creams and lotions to help soothe irritated skin due to eczema, psoriasis and other dry skin conditions.

We carry some of the most exotic, spa grade salts from around the world. They are all naturally harvested from mineral-rich waters and possess the finest mineral compositions for use in skin care. Use them “as is” for bath salts or color and scent them for use as fragranced bath soaks. Our fine grain salts are perfect for exfoliating salt scrubs.

Bath salts are extremely easy and fun to make. They can be made from one or more varieties of salt. Using different salts brings the therapeutic properties of each of the salts into your bath salt blend. Using different grain sizes provides more visual appeal. Bath salts can be lightly colored in beautiful pastel or light earthy hues by using mica powder or our organic FD&C dyes. Mica powders add a light shimmer to bath salts. We suggest only lightly coloring your bath salts so that the dye will not stain the skin during bath time. You may also add a tiny amount of vegetable oil to add moisturizing properties to your bath salt blend. Bath salts can be fragranced with essential oils or fragrance oils. Use approximately 1% essential oil or 2% fragrance oil. If fragrancing your bath salt blend, we suggest including Dendritic salt in your bath salt blend. Dendritic salt helps retain the aroma of your bath salts.

Our fine grain salts are also wonderful for use in making exfoliating body and foot scrubs. Experiment by mixing fine grain salts with your choice of vegetable oils (fractionated coconut oil works well), our natural castille soap base for gentle cleansing, herbs, clays and no more than 1% essential oil for fragrance and additional therapeutic benefit. We do not recommend using salt scrubs on the face.

Naturally harvested sea salts are hand cleaned when packaged however, they often contain small particles of seaweed, sand, shell and other beach particles. Large mineral deposits appear as small stones or pebbles. These particles are not harmful, but they can be cosmetically undesirable. We do our best not to send out salts that have too much natural beach debris.

Sweeten up your body scrubs with these luscious, natural sugars. They gently exfoliate the skin just as our salts do, but our natural sugars look so much more decadent! Experiment by substituting one of our natural sugars for the salt in your favorite salt scrub recipe!

Because our sugars retain their natural molasses content, they do impart a slightly sweet, molasses aroma to your recipe. When choosing essential or fragrance oils to fragrance your blend, please choose oils with aromas that will blend well. Examples of essential oils that tend to blend well with our sugars are sandalwood, patchouli, orange or vanilla. You may also explore our selection of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, fruit, nut and spice fragrance oils for fragrances that blend well with our sugars.
